Angels on Diamond Street
Angels on Diamond Street (2019) 88 min.
A documentary about three inspiring women fighting for social justice in an African American church in North Philadelphia. Their compassion invites us to forget about borders, and inspires all to go out and do something.
We follow head cook Mamie, volunteer and former Black Panther Barbara, and Pastor Renee during their daily activities in the Church of the Advocate: a national monument with a rich history in the civil rights movement. One day, Carmela, a Mexican undocumented immigrant desperate to protect herself and her four children from deportation, asks for sanctuary at the Church of the Advocate, where she is welcomed with open arms.
